SAT & ACT Test Dates & Deadlines
If you are planning to take the SAT or ACT standardized test, there are important dates and deadlines to consider. The date you choose will not impact your score, but Chyten provides tips that will help you decide when is the best time for you to take the exam.
Chyten was founded to empower each student to take control of his or her academic achievement. Since 1984, we have helped thousands of students improve their SAT or ACT scores. More than 1,000 of them have achieved perfect scores, and at least 2,000 Chyten students have been accepted to Ivy League schools.
When Should You Take SAT and ACT Tests?
The ACT, SAT and SAT Subject Tests are each offered seven times a year. In general, the College Board administers the tests on Saturdays, and tests are more frequent during the fall. We encourage you to review our Test Date Calendar.
The most important factor to consider is your college admissions deadlines. You will need to make sure your test scores are ready when you apply. If you are applying for an early decision, an academic merit scholarship, or have been recruited for athletics, you should focus on hitting your target SAT/ACT score and GPA by the end of your junior year, with a plan to take your chosen test at least twice before the college’s deadline.
Another factor is whether you have the knowledge and understanding of the concepts that will be tested on the SAT and ACT. You will typically earn higher scores once you’ve taken the classes that cover the material on the tests. We recommend getting some extra test prep tutoring targeted at any weaknesses or subjects you may not have thoroughly covered in school.
Next, consider scheduling your exams at a time when you don’t have a lot of other activities going on. Taking the SAT or ACT at busy times may cause too much stress and anxiety and too little time to prep, resulting in lower-than-expected scores on test day.
If you are aiming for the highest SAT or ACT scores, taking the test for the first time will give you a better idea of how much you need to improve your scores to gain admission to your dream college. This will enable you to schedule extra test prep time that fits your schedule.
